USA Today recently named Glenwood Springs one of the top ten places to stand up paddleboard in the country. “With the Colorado River passing through town and a man-made whitewater park, there’s no shortage of places to kick up some surf here.” SUPing on the Colorado river is certainly a unique experience from the flat water SUPing that most people have seen in magazines as of late or even tried out themselves. It’s a bit of a challenge mastering the board on a moving river – but boy is it a ton of fun! The SUP boards are much larger … continued
Have you ever been to a drive-in theater? What about a raft-in theater? Okay we’re not exactly going to be coming in via river – but this week, we’re going to bust out all of our rafts, duckies and tubes at our headquarters downtown and show a good ole’ fashioned American classic on our big screen. There will be a few chairs too – but folks are encouraged to bring their own camping chairs if they don’t want to crash in a raft. Admission is FREE – so it’s quite a good deal, but if you want a treat, there will be … continued
When the water starts to get a little lower later in the summer, we have a lot of guests ask us how they can add a little bit more excitement to their rafting trip. While you’re still going to get some awesome whitewater in the bigger boats, an inflatable kayak, or ducky, is a great way to enjoy the flat water on the Colorado River. Unlike a traditional hard-top kayak, you don’t need to know how to “roll” in a ducky. If the ducky tips over, you’re going for a little dip. Though, they’re surprisingly easy to use, even if you’ve never … continued
Recently, we had a lovely group of people come try out our segway tour. This was their first time on a segway – but boy did they have fun. Read what Steve had to say about their adventure: All four of us had never been on a segway before and thought that this was the perfect opportunity being $65 for 3 hours. Granted, most of the first hour is used just to get you familiar with how to ride a segway and is VERY IMPORTANT. The segways they have are the X2 model which is heavier and more powerful than … continued
We thrilled to have a friendly face hanging around Glenwood Adventure again. Mike Tepper, the offensive lineman for the Indianapolis Colts who spent the 2011 NFL lockout with us, is back for some Colorado fun! Mike is taking some downtime to enjoy his love for the outdoors and get in some high altitude training before the NFL season starts up again. Last year, Mike came to us through David, another one of our fantastic guides from California. The two grew up as best buds on the West Coast and treated us to their crazy antics until we couldn’t take it … continued
Though we didn’t have particularly high water this year, normally it’s best to give the river a month or so after the run-off to clear up for some first-class Colorado fishing! Glenwood Adventure has some pretty amazing trips – and one heck of a guide – if you’re looking to get your pole in the water. Ryan Davis with Emerald Water Anglers is a very accomplished oarsman and one of our float guides who spends most of June chasing the salmonfly hatch around the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. His knowledge of hatches and float fishing tactics has grown to be … continued
Glenwood Springs has been through the mill when it comes to forest fires. Mother nature has a way of correcting itself in the the least opportune moments. Someone’s material life can go up in flames in a matter of minutes. This might seem like a pretty heavy topic, but wildfires in this area have affected everyone very deeply over the last couple of decades. In light of the horrible fire on the front range, near Fort Collins, we’d like to reach out to everyone who will be visiting our beautiful area and ask that visitors play safe to help us … continued
If you didn’t know, Glenwood Springs gets quite a few visitors throughout the year and there are quite a few people that work in the travel and tourism industry in the surrounding area to keep up with that adventuresome bunch of travelers. Concierges tell epic stories of whitewater rafting and Colorado sunshine to their guests, front desk staff gives last minute activity recommendations for those vacationing on-the-fly, and other GWS representatives help families plan anything from a weekend getaway to a full on family reunion. We thought, if these fine people talk about how fabulous Glenwood Springs is all day, shouldn’t they … continued
It’s likely that we’ve all had trouble finding our dad’s a good gift on Father’s Day… or maybe every single gift-giving holiday for the last 20 years. Guys are hard to shop for! It’s a fact. It’s also probably science. But Glenwood Adventure has THE perfect idea for the present that your pops will never forget. You might have guessed it by now – AN ADVENTURE! An adventure doesn’t compare to the popularity of the millions of neck ties, coffee mugs, and DVDs of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour that will be given this Father’s Day; but if you’re dad … continued
Normally, we just get outside and have some fun just for a good time, but who would have guessed that some of our adventures are actually good for your health? Okay okay, that might sound like it’s bogus, but it’s not. Whitewater rafting, paddleboarding, rock climbing, and cycling all burn some major calories and will help you become a lean, mean fighting machine! Whitewater rafting burns between 300 and 350 calories an hour. You get a great upper body workout from digging those paddles into the big whitewater and you really engage your core keeping balanced in the boat. You … continued
Let me start off by saying that we encourage pretty much anyone and everyone that comes to us to go whitewater rafting with GAC and Lakota Guides. Not only is Glenwood Springs one of the best areas for rafters of all levels, but it’s just a wonderful activity on summer’s day to bond with your family or your pals. Considering Glenwood Springs is surrounded by dramatic mountain ranges, it’s no wonder why most visitors plan to hike during their stay. If you pick up a guide on local hikes, it might be a bit overwhelming. With trails in every direction, it’s hard to pick out what treks will be best for your group – especially if you have other activities planned during the day. Here are a couple of our favorite hikes that are close by, so you’ll spend less time in the car, and more time hoofing it toward the summit. Click the trail title to learn more … continued

Whitewater Rafting No matter what, I think this one is always going to top our list of things to do in the summer. There is just nothing better than suiting up on a sunny Colorado day and getting that exciting rush as you run the Shoshone Rapids. We’re counting down the days until we dig in our paddles and cruise the river. With our rafting partner, Lakota Guides, we offer quite a few whitewater rafting adventures for all levels of experience. Glenwood Canyon Trial re-opening The re-opening of the Glenwood Canyon Trail has been pretty big news around Glenwood … continued
If you hadn’t heard, the Colorado River had a big spring last year. The rapids crashed through Glenwood Canyon completely obliterating sections of the bike path. While that made for some pretty adventurous rafting later in the season, local and visiting cyclists were pretty bummed out that they could no longer bike through the scenic canyon. Nevertheless, we still had lots of folks spend the day peddling down the Roaring Fork enjoying the majestic views of Mt. Sopris. But, we have some great news! Over the last few seasons, the Colorado Department of Transportation was able to repair the Glenwood … continued
While not particularly known as a ski town, Glenwood Springs has been voted one of the top 7 ski towns in America by Best of the Road. You may remeber from out last post that the site as also called Glenwood Springs one of the best “fun” small towns in America – and that is an award we wont dispute! While the ski areas of Summit County are good, they also tend to be more crowded due to their proximity to the front range. Vail is cool, but arguably one-dimensional. But keep driving down I-70 and you come to Glenwood … continued
At least, according to mapmaker Rand McNally and USA Today. Narrowed down from 600 submissions, their Best of the Road® series sent amateur travelers all over the U.S. to personally visit the top thirty towns and make a final determination who was the most fun, the most patriotic, the most beautiful, the friendliest and the best for food. While they were in Glenwood Springs, these amateur travelers sure packed in the fun! Not only did they spend time touring the georgeous Bair Ranch on the seats of Glenwood Adventure’s own ATV’s, but also took in fourth of July fireworks from … continued
While the snow has been averse to participating in winter here so far in 2012 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, that won’t stop us from trying to create memories and supply adventures! We have decided to continue to offer Segway tours, ATV tours and Horseback rides, weather permitting until the snow really starts to fly. If you find your self in Glenwood Springs and the snow conditions aren’t up to your expectations this winter, give us a call and schedule a fun little tour and take in some of the great scenery that Glenwood Springs provides.
Yes, you read right. The world of professional sports and whitewater rafting have crossed. A few weeks back, Indianapolis Colt’s offensive lineman, Mike Tepper, came to visit a friend at the Glenwood Adventure Company. Then, he never left. He’s a pretty fun guy to be around and he can just about lift anything we ask him, so we decided to keep him around 🙂 Mike is now a certified raft guide and finds being on the river in Glenwood Springs a great way to pass time during the NFL lockout.
